MUSINGS

I would like to tell you about myself.
I was the first cat.
I was the cat-lover-converter. Means, the whole family was not into cat, until I converted them.
I have that special powers to make people love me, and my fellow felines at home.
I am still the head of the house.

I remembered when I first came home.
They all went to choose me and I was in this little cage inside the house.
Mummy was the last person to know there was a cat.
Yep, she had quite a shock to see me inside the house.
Her first words were..."what an ugly cat!!"
What me? An ugly cat?

So, this was me when I was just a few days at home. I thought I was cute.
Mummy didn't.
Thank goodness everyone else loved me even then.

I used to sleep with Mummy. That was my secret weapon. Not long after, she loves me.
Here's her favourite shot of me sleeping when I was a little kitten.

Then months went by and I grew.
A lot more! So, to prove how much I have grown in the past 7 months since staying with my human family, I post a before (kitten time - age 2.5 months) and now picture (almost 10 months).
Now, mummy never calls me ugly anymore.
They do have many other funny names they call me, but I don't care as long as the food keeps coming :)
After a bout of fungus and losing a lot of my kitten fur, it grew more, softer, thicker and denser.
Okay, okay...I wasn't so cute as a little kitten.
I am way better now :)
Don't you think so?

Bye for now....

BYB - Back Yard Breeders

I was from a back yard breeder.
Back then, my human family did not know what is a back yard breeder.
All they wanted was a cat and my home was the only place they knew.
They didn't know anything about CFA, TICA or even heard of a proper cattery.
They just assumed that's how pets were bought.

My real feline parents were caged up 24/7.
They have free flow of water and food and that's about it.
They stay in their cage every day, and probably for the rest of their lives.
No fresh air. No walking or roaming around.
Just waiting for the season to mate.
Waiting for the kitten like me to be weaned and be sold off.
Waiting for the big bucks.
Yet, the place where I was from was very clean.
Cats were not abused, just no freedom.
I feel so sorry for my parents and all those cats.

My human family certainly have seen much worse BYB.
Cats next to dogs.
Cats with no litter tray even though we are easily litter trained.
Dogs barking non stop.
We have no voice or choice next to any dogs.
Animals not washed or vaccinated forever.
All form of animals caged up in pitiful sights and small confined space.
Pet shops buying from more BYB kitten mills.
Maybe they live a better condition. Cleaner and with aircondition.

That being said, my actual feline mum was only bred twice a year.
What about an international affliated superstar cattery which breeds their Queen 4 times a year?
Are they any better than my back yard breeder where I came from.
At this superstar cattery, cats were also all cooped up in a cage. Filthy.
No cleaner than my BYB cattery.
Queens were 'sub-contracted' out to families for the purpose of breeding.
Mummy was told don't just buy the cat, make lots of money from the cats.
That should make sense in paying an arm this poor cat.
And of course, there are those reputable cattery, so check your facts thoroughly when you choose one.

However, thank our Heavenly paws for that, this did not happen to me.
Angel will be spayed soon.
I will be spayed soon.
No breeding for us.
No contribution to strays.
Just unconditional love and exaggerated cuteness to offer to our family, and vice versa.
Mummy said if ever the thought of breeding did occur, it's because we actually want the kittens or pass them to loving families.

4 cats and more experience, our human family now know more about kitten mills.
About BYB.
About good and unscrupulous registered catteries.
About people who actually loved us cats before passing them to the next owner.
All of us are just glad we were taken home to live in our current house.
Free roaming.
Lots of fresh, canned and dry food all day long.
We recently ate raw meat.
Close to how nature intended for cats.
Most importantly, loved by all.

I do wish all cats have the chance like me.

Love, Princess.

FEELING BLUE...

BLUE is the feeling I have nowadays.
Our feline brood has extended.
We have another new kitten to our existing 3. So, it's 4 now.
Kinda crowded actually. Mummy said that's it and no more. 4 is more than all our human family can handle.
4 X more food to feed, and 4 X more poop to clear.
So, I hope for everyone's sake, 4 is enough.
Baby Blue is the latest kitten. She's 3 months old and a British Shorthair.
A real firecracker who has this enormous amount of energy to play non-stop.
So far, the best 'fur-baller' at home. She's really, really good with the ball.  It's her, Maxi and Angel chasing the ball all over the house. A kitten with a huge appetite too! I don't know why they called her a Blue British Shorthair, because she looks anything but blue to me. More like gray. Or maybe a huge gray mouse :(
She fitted in super easy with everyone and plays with Angel most of the time. Our human kiddies like to compare us 'the oranges' against the 'blacks..or greys' because that's more like the colour of this British Shorthair...which a perpetual grin on her face !
After more than a week and the humans still have a problem naming her, so she's Baby Blue for now...but I am sure the name will change soon.

Here's Angel lounging on the chair. We are all getting used to her. Us Persians like to lie low and sleep under all cabinets, tables and chair. So, Angel came and broke all the rules. She sleeps on the bed, which was a huge no-no for the human family. She jumps on all counter, tables and chair. Even that Maxi guy started to move to higher ground. So after a weeks of unsuccessful training and re-training, the human family gave up and left her to be at her fav spot. The couch. Her being on the couch means 'patting time' and everyone can pat and stroke her. Otherwise, she will not let anyone cuddle or hold her.

Overall, we're good. All 4 of us. Playtime is always between Maxi and I, and the Blue and Angel are a pair.

Over the weekend, we got sent to a pet hotel. All of us are not happy. Confined space is not norm for us as we roam free the entire house. Being in a noisy environment especially with dogs are were also not fun, but human family had a trip out, so we had to go there for a night. However, one night felt like one week...so, please don't send us anywhere anymore.

Mummy wonder if there is such thing as pet sitting.
If someone can come over and feed us would be perfect, then we do not need to leave our home.
Or, if there is such possibilities of exchange pet sitting? Where pet owners can work out some sort of schedule to send the pets to each other house for a day or two. Definitely beats the idea of staying in a pet hotel.

Finally, Maxi got sent to the groomers again in a short period. He got a much shorter cut.  Mummy said it's much easier to manage because, otherwise, he's this huge hairy beast roaming around in the house.

More pictures soon..

MUSINGS

Weekday musings from Princess. At first, it was just me.
Then there is Maxi. Here he is as usual - sleeping - nothing else matters.
He can sleep anywhere in the house.
Here peeking from a chair. He looked uncomfortable, but still sleeping.

Sleeping on anyone's lap. He doesn't care. He'll probably thinks your lap is a pillow.

Slowly waking up and opening his small little slit eyes.
You lose when in comes to eyes Maxi! You can't beat me :)
He's just all hairy, furry and bushy tail, but so lovable !!

Our feline space is getting crowded. We have another cat, but that's another post later.
I have lots of stuff going through my head now. Why are they all here? We do have loads of kibbles and food aplenty...but still, is more good? I gotta think about all these stuff, life used to be just about kibbles but now seems not the priority.  My human family kept telling me they love me. That I am special because I was the first cat...but I have a feeling that is still not enough.

Furry-ly yours, Princess :(
